Homeowner, Bill, has lived in his Bayboro, North Carolina home for four years. He is wanting to sell the home, and in order to pass inspections, he needed some repairs done to the subfloor in the crawl space. During our free inspection, design specialist, Tim, found groundwater seepage and high humidity levels. Mold was present, there were open vents letting hot air in, and there were traces of pests. A beam needed replacement and the floor above needed support as it was sagging. The high humidity in the crawl space lead to moisture in the wood, which was why the floors were sagging, as wet wood will decay. The humidity can also be a breeding ground for unwanted pests and mold.
First, we removed the old, damp insulation. Then, we installed a band board replacement, along with two Smart Jacks to raise and level the sagging floor. We installed 1,008 sqft of CleanSpace liner for a crawl space encapsulation that separates the home from the earth, 363 ft of SilverGlo wall vapor barrier, a SmartSump sump pump to collect standing water, as well as an electrical outlet and sub panel for the sump pump power.
These products will provide Bill with a dry crawl space, resulting in less pests, more efficient energy, better air quality, healthy wood, and he will be able to pass the home inspection that assures a healthy home for the next resident.
