Kathy contacted Southeast Foundation & Crawl Space Repair about fallen insulation and moisture issues at her home in Kinston, NC.
SEFR scheduled for one of our design specialists, Andy to go out and do an inspection of the crawl space. Upon the inspection, Andy met with Kathy to go over what he proposed. With the fallen insulation and moisture issues Andy found that the best solution would be to encapsulate the crawl space. By installing the CleanSpace Crawl Space Encapsulation System we are able to seal out the moisture from entering the crawl space from around the foundation walls and from the ground.

The problem
Mr. Fox loves his home in Kinston, NC. His kitchen floor was unlevel and seemed to be getting worse, and he noticed cracks on the exterior brick walls. He also noticed a musty smell in the home, most likely coming up from the crawl space. In June of 2026, he decided to get Southeast Foundation & Crawls Space Repair to evaluate the issues. We found that the foundation was settling and causing his walls to crack. Upon receiving a free estimate for solutions, Mr. Fox decided it was time to get his crawlspace and foundation fixed before the issues got worse, resulting in a more costly and time-consuming fix.
Over time, a home’s foundation can gradually move or settle due to the soil beneath expanding and contracting. This can cause serious structural damage such as bowed walls, cracks in the walls, plumbing issues, and uneven floors. These problems can be expensive to repair if not fixed and can lower property value. Serious foundation problems become a safety concern if the stability of the building gets too weakened. The walls and floors can collapse because the foundation can no longer support the structure.
The Solution
Our solution was to install helical piers, which are large steel screws that are driven deep into the ground to stabilize and support the structure of the home by transferring the building’s weight to stronger soil. This attachment to stronger soil prevents further movement of the foundation over time.
We dug the soil around the area of the home that has settled to expose the bottom of the foundation. Foundation brackets are fastened to the bottom of the foundation. The helical pier is then screwed into the ground and attached to the foundation bracket. Hydraulic jacks are then placed on top of the foundation brackets, and the force push the bracket upward, lifting the foundation to a level position. Once level, the brackets are bolted to the helical pier, and the hydraulic jacks are removed.
To fix the uneven kitchen floor, we installed two 10 ft supplemental beams, and one 8 ft beam under the crawlspace. This lifted the floor to a level position and provided extra structural support for all the floors in the home.

This encapsulation instalment will protect Mr. Fox’s home from moisture and humidity, eliminating mold, mildew, corrosion, pest damage, and wood rot.

While many homeowners do not access their crawl space regularly or use it for storage, what happens in this space can have a large impact on the rest of the home.
If you have a vented crawl space, you can count on 40% of the air in your home coming from your crawl space. Anything in that air -- including mold spores, odors, and humidity -- is all brought up into your home.
Cleaning your crawl space will eliminate a highly significant source of allergens in your home, while also creating a healthier environment.
Mr. Huntsman contacted our office advising that he would like an estimate for spray foam sealing his outdoor work building. Mr. Graham Moore metwith Mr. Huntsman and advised him that the work could be completed and that it would certainly help to insulate the inside from the hot and cold temperatures. Mr. Ricky Warren and his crawlspace crew installed the spray foam insulation for the home owner and he is tickled pink with the results and the difference of temperature from inside and outside the building.
