Crawl Spaces are Supposed to Be Dirt, Right? Wilmington, NC

Wednesday, March 7th, 2018 by Derek Moore

Our territory is large, but we love to serve the people of Wilmington, NC.  Over the last few years in this area, one topic of discussion amongst homeowners is the need for encapsulation.  People often reason that if their home originally came with a dirt floor underneath, then there is good reason, or it should suffice. They speculate that companies that offer waterproofing exist mostly to make a dollar, and profit is king.  Though basement and crawl space waterproofing is indeed a big industry, the need for encapsulations and problem prevention is greater than most can imagine.

The main reason homes are built on a dirt floor is simple:  it saves money.  It's cheaper than concrete, and cheaper than encapsulating from the beginning.  But, as is the case for most things in life, you get what you pay for.  With waterproofing crawl spaces, the disadvantages of delaying could outweigh the advantages of the money savings.  Building a house this way is just dysfunctional, and dysfunctional never equals value, it spells out danger in the future.

A few examples or symptoms indicating you already have a problem are:  standing water, drywall cracks in the interior, uneven floors, foul odors in your home, or signs of heightened allergies or asthma symptoms.

Our CleanSpace liner reduces the humidity and moisture in your crawl space, and helps seal out cold drafts in the winter.  It can be used on basement and crawl space walls, has a durable 20mil thick liner with a 7-layer polyethylene composition, and polyester cord reinforcement.  Best of all, it comes with a 25-year total performance warranty.  Using CleanSpace as a part of your complete crawl space encapsulation is an excellent way to ensure that those you care about are safe in your home for many years to come.
