Crawl Space Encapsulation in New Bern, NC
Challenge
Bernadette was having concerns about the air quality in her home, as there were musty, damp smells coming from the crawl space. There was standing water in the crawl space after heavy rains. The insulation in the crawl space was old and falling down and there was mold present. Also, the crawl space door was not closing correctly and letting in excess humidity and moisture. Bernadette wants to keep the home in the family and pass it down to her children, she needed repairs that would permanently maintain the health of the home.
Solution
We provided Bernadette with a Crawl Space Encapsulation. First, we removed the old, moldy insulation in the crawl space, as mold can cause wood rot and other issues. We separted the house from the earth with 2,676 sqft of 20 Mil Clean Space liner with drainage matting, along with 114 sqft of StarPipe, which drains ground water out of the space. A SmartSump sump pump was installed for added waterproofing protection to remove water from the space to an exterior discharge area. A shiny foam insulation vapor barrier called SilverGlo was applied over the walls of the crawl space to prevent moisture and improve energy efficiency. A SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier was installed to control the humidity and keep mold from growing. Lastly, we provided a custom measured AirLok Crawl Space Door to seal in the conditioned air.
A crawl space that is dry, sealed, conditioned and controlled has many benefits such as:
- Protection from Water and Pest Damage
- Maintained or Boosted Home Value
- Improved Air Quality
- Higher Energy Efficiency
- Storage Space
